Smoked salmon served over hearty rye and topped with a lemony sauce—the only thing that could make it any tastier would be caviar!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp lemon peel
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbs chopped, fresh dill
  • 8 slices dark rye bread, buttered
  • Lettuce, as needed
  • 8 thin slices tomato
  • 8 oz smoked salmon, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced red or yellow onions

Directions

  • Mix mayonnaise, lemon peel, lemon juice, and dill; set aside.
  • Assemble rye sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, salmon, and onions stacked inside. Dollop with lemony mayonnaise.
  • Garnish with fresh dill sprigs, if desired.
