Side Effects

The Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency reviewed randomized controlled trials of a specific form of strontium (strontium ranelate), and concluded that the use of this compound increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. For that reason, it is recommended that people with a history of cardiovascular disease not use strontium ranelate.2It is not known whether other forms of strontium also increase cardiovascular disease risk.
