It wasn't until the 1500s that sunflower seeds made their way to Europe, eventually arriving in Europe, where they were selected for their size, oilseed production, and beauty. Suggested directions:
Direct sow after threat of frost has passed, or start indoors up to 2 weeks earlier. Sow seeds 2-3 per foot, then thin to 18" spacing when seedlings are established. Plant in full sun. Tolerates poor soil and infrequent watering. Grow up to 12' high: stake to support, and plant where they will not shade out other full sun crops. Seeds can be roasted for eating or put in bird feeders.
