Mallow is classified as a demulcent, an herb that soothes irritated skin and tissue. The leaves make a gentle preparation to comfort, coat and protect the throat, bronchial and upper respiratory passages.
COMMON NAMES: Blue Mallow, Common Mallow, High Mallow.
Gentle, soothing support for the mucous tissue, such as the throat and respiratory systems (tea, gargle); soothes urinary tract & gastrointestinal health.
Soothes itchy, irritated skin (wash, bath herb). For external preparations, some herbalists recommend a cold infusion to more effectively extract the herbís mucilage (a soothing, gelatinous substance).
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over Ĺ to 1 teaspoonful of herb. Allow to steep 4-7 minutes, then strain. Drink 1- 2 cups of tea daily. If desired, add honey and/or lemon to taste.
Cold Infusion Directions: Add 6 teaspoons of cut leaves and/or flowers to 1 quart of cold water and allow to infuse overnight. Strain and apply topically.
