Red Sandalwood is the heartwood of the Pterocarpus santalinus, a tree native of South India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. It’s a traditional Ayurvedic skin care ingredient for blemish-free skin and yields a natural reddish-scarlet color that is used in DIY body powders, soaps, and natural cosmetics.
NOTE: This variety of Sandalwood is mildly aromatic, for a stronger fragrance use Yellow Sandalwood (Santalum album).
COMMON NAMES: Red Sanders, Red Saunders, Rubywood, Sappan, Rakta Chandana.

Common use:
Skin tonic (can be combined with Turmeric, Neem, as well as cosmetic clays for facial masks); natural coloring agent for hair and skin care formulas.
Suggested directions:
To prepare as an “instant tea”: Pour 1 cup of boiling water over ¼ to ½ teaspoonful of powder. Drink 1-2 cups of tea daily. If desired add honey and/or lemon to suit taste.
